Watercolor #4

It's piling up slowly but surely. This is another caricature study in watercolor. 6x9 inches in cold press paper. I like doing small works for fast results, just trying to get away from boredom. This a caricature of Buster Keaton of the silent movie era.

Watercolor #3

2 versions of caricature on Al Pacino. The latter in monochrome black and white watercolor, and the former in bronze wax oil pastel. I did these artworks loosely to try out the creative side of exaggeration rather than the technical side of achieving the exact likeness of Mr. Pacino. Under time constraint I couldn't have the luxury of spending time sculpting his face. In caricature it's mostly the artist's own interpretation of exaggeration and creativity that's into play. It's a study anyway.

Watercolor #2

Caricature in watercolor, a monochrome study in 9x12 98 lb. Canson paper. I am obviously still learning the medium and launching for a very long journey to mastering it.

Charcoal portrait of Woody Allen. 11x14 inches.

Easy does it.

Charcoal portrait of Steve Buscemi on a 11x-4 inches of toned gray paper. I'm curious about that HBO series Boardwalk Empire where Buscemi received a widespread critical acclaim on his performance. I think it's on its 4th season now. I simply can't have the time for it. However, Steve's facial character has always intrigue me ever since, and it's a sheer joy to do a portrait of him. It makes the job easier.

Portrait in graphite on 8.5 x 11 inches on white paper. I applied straight cross-hatching in the entire process without the use of stumps or any material usually employed to blend or make smudges. It was tempting to use it as it makes the job easier, but it defeats my purpose on this artwork. I was trying to see how to temper various pressures on hatching to get the desired value on tone.

Watercolor #1

A monochromatic study in watercolor on a cold press paper. 6x9 ins. I would like to try some more of watercolor sketches and get a hang of it. My concept of values doing charcoal is a big help that I can't see any difficulty applying it with watercolor.
