Perlman again
Ink on paper. Among the many personalities I have drawn, Itzhak Perlman is the most person I did many times over. I'm not so sure why, but I'm sure this is not the last. For almost a year now I have been doing a lot of doodles on ink and paper for reasons that it's convenient and an easy pack up when why little one comes prowling around to mess up things. Especially now that she is starting to walk by herself. I'm looking forward in the near future of doing art with her around trying to get busy emulating his father --that we'll be a calmer situation. Perhaps, I could work on a more serious medium like pastel, charcoal, oil, or digital painting.
I'm glad the Republican party, backed by the Tea Party Movement, had a sweeping victory across the nation in last Tuesday's mid-term election. The Dems and the far left pundits are no longer name-calling and laughing at the people's movement. Obama and the elitist left are done with their arrogance, insensitivity, and callowness on issues that matters most on the people. "The people has clearly spoken", as he puts it in his press conference the day after. So it remains to be seen if he's sincere on what he is professing of working with the now majority party Republicans. I don't know how Obama is really going to work with the new majority leader who is NOT bent on compromising the Obamacare and TARP Reform. Why would anybody compromise on anything that will surely bankrupt the nation? I strongly support the 'Repeal and Replace the Obamacare'. Obama in defense of his defeat on his supposedly referendum said, "he didn't communicate enough and people didn't get it" --he gave 258 speeches on healthcare alone!!! You can't possibly believe this guy on everything he says and he would make it sound good like candy so everybody buys it.

Cone headed Englishman
Creme de la creme
Yasha Heifetz. Ball point on paper. Many are saying that he's "emotionless" like a lamp post, rarely make body gesture or facial expression when playing even the toughest phrase ever, yet his rendition is never short of brilliance and technical prowess. That makes him a genius; he always makes it easy and natural to play music. He played the Bazzini like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Nigel
Ball point on paper. Nigel Kennedy, English violinist, Julliard trained, known for his rock star-like stage persona, spiky hair, eccentric clothing, oversized shoes, and ostentatious jewelry; has been making waves for 23 years in classical, rock and jazz world. He earned his respect for his technical finesse and stunningly unique renditions of his music. I used to play violin professionally. My hero.

You might want to try this.
Graphite on tracing paper. This technique was shared to me by a fellow artist Dave Malan, whom I admire a lot of his great talent. You might want to try it too if your trying to improve in terms of likeness. The pic on the very top was my first attempt: I draw a picture of Matt Damon in freehand using a tracing paper; NO TRACING, please. The one next below it is my second attempt: I placed a new tracing paper on top of the first one and correct it by drawing a better one with new lines of adjustments. This should look better than the first since you are working on trying to capture the likeness of the figure. The one directly above is my 3rd and final attempt: I just repeated step 2 by placing a new tracing paper on top of the last one and made more adjustments. I was satisfied with the 3rd, so I stopped. It might take more than 3, 4, 5, or many more attempts till you're satisfied. It all depends on your level of skill, but definitely this technique will benefit anyone with consistent practice. This is my very first exercise, and I think it will help me a lot on trying to improve the way I look at a figure and getting it down to its likeness. Thanks again, Dave!

Just one more time
Mr. DM
Graphite on 5.5 x 8.5 ins. paper. Dean Martin was one of my fav singers. People have known him doing shows with cigarette and a glass of wine on the other hand. The fact of the matter is, that glass is not really an alcohol drink, but just an apple juice--that's right just an apple juice. That thing his puffing though is a real cigarette. Sadly, he died from lung cancer.

Ramiro Medina
Graphite on 5.5 x 8.5 paper. Did this one at the workplace for about 10-15 minutes. Ramiro was nice enough to pose for me. I'm glad this one came out fairly good, and I'm satisfied. With too much information I get from a live model, filtering down to what is only needed is pretty much a struggle. I often just dive-in without much giving thought of what I'm exactly doing, a common mistake by most artists. Always a rule of thumb: when one starts it right, normally ends up right. I intend to do more of this at the workplace, it's a good place to start. Anyway, thanks for posing, Ramiro.

Head study of J. Collins'
Charcoal and white pastel on 9 x12 Mi-tientes. This was inspired from Jacob Collins' painting "Candace". It was a good practice because it didn't came out easy. Mi-tientes has a bigger bite compare to other paper I tried that I have to be careful pressing the Charcoal on it. Starting it light is always ideal. Totally blackening the paper to stress darkness is not good.

Guitar Picking-Bluegrass Singing-Never Grow Up Boy
Graphite on 5.5 x 9.5 paper. Del McCoury, bigtime-longtime bluegrass singer. I have his "Chairman of the "Board" album, one of my fav music. I discover listening to him when I first heard them on the movie, Father Where Art Thou?" Lately, as always the case, for the fact that I get to do a lot of artworks and posted them, I have been neglecting, or delaying, some stuff that I ought to do in life. Basic stuff to get my life going, such as paying bills, doing errands, mowing my lawn, cleaning up, washing my truck, and others. I am selfishly indulging myself to do more art more than anything else. That's another main reason why I never wanted to have x-box and games-- it will just ruin my priority. I got myself an Intuous 3 that I barely use because it takes so much work on familiarizing with the tablet, and my hand and eye coordination is so messed up.

Danny Trejo
Graphite on 5.5 x 8.5 ins. paper. Dominic Philibert is such an inspiring artist that he never cease to amaze me with his works. This one I copied from his website, a rough but a remarkable sketch that he did, that I decided to copy it and did a little modifiaction by rendering more on the facial expression. As the old clihe goes: the greatest compliment one can give is by emulation. Thanks BIG D!
