#981 The Bull

Caricature in pastel. Toned paper. 11x14 inches. It is a caricature of Benecio del Toro. I was trying to stretch it more to the edge of exaggeration, yet maintaining likeness. It's really tough!

#980 Bell

Violin virtuoso Joshua Bell in black and white pastel. 18x24inches.

I have to consciously make a composition on this artwork. It makes this piece more unique and personal, and more interesting. Because the figure is not whole, as some parts are apparently cut out, it makes proportions more challenging. Lighting is another aspect in art that is also challenging, but I managed to keep my focal point at par as I possibly can. Hope you like it.

#977 Perlman, baby!

A WIP of my next project in pastel. Toned paper. 18x24".
This is the violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman. For those who are not versed in the classical world, Mr. Perlman is one of the most notable figures whose musical influence resonates not only in the music stage of the western countries, but also in Europe, Asia, and Middle East. Along with his tons of classical recordings he does movie themes.  He did the original renditions of the Theme of the movie Scheindler's List, the Argentine tango played in a Pacino movie Scent of a Woman,  the Theme for Out of Africa, and the theme of Fiddler on the Roof.
He's my all time favorite violinist, and I'm proud to have seen him played in person in one of his concerts here in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl. It was
magical.

#976 study

Caricature in pastel. 11x14 toned paper.

I first saw this oil pan pastel on a demo did by a big time New York artist David Kassan through youtube. It's like a one of those women's face powder they apply on their face. It's a pastel similar to those sticks that has been around for years only in a powder form but not as dusty but it sticks to almost any paper. It is applied by a pallete knife, not like an ordinary knife but a one that is specially made for this type with an foam applicator on the tip. You know when some artist uses a knife all to the finish? Same concept!
You might not guess it right off the bat, but can you see a Harry Connick Jr on this drawing? It was a very un-Harry picture that I copied to begin with, that's why I picked it  up for the challenge.

#974 quickie

Charcoal. I started doing this one in the car, on my break time at work. Such situation is not an ideal option but somehow I would like to do it and tried to pull it through.

#973 Aunt Bee

Aunt Bee of The Andy Griffith Show.  Charcoal on toned paper.
Patsy, a fellow artist and friend, suggested this to me that I should include this sweet character in my gallery.  I was looking for an expression of face that would describe her as sweet and sensitive, but worrisome , as most grannies are.  "More pie, fellas?"
Like how she does her pies- you can't overdo it!

#972 Vivian

Did a bit of tweaking on the face, mainly on both cheeks downward to her chin to bring more light. She was looking like one of the super heroes with a mask on.

I feel spaced-out and didn't know what project to do next, and I'm in the car with a tight space to start any of a serious work. So I decided to chill with this old work. Yes, I do bring materials and my sketches wherever I go, because on moments when I need to use the time to draw I wouldn't want to feel inadequate. Have you heard of art studio on the go?
